Softball heads to Seton Hall for pivotal three game series
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – UConn softball travels to New Jersey this weekend to take on the Seton Hall Pirates in a three game series. All games will be streamed on FloSoftball.
UConn (23-19) comes into the weekend winners in four of their last five games. The Huskies currently are sitting in second place in the BIG EAST standings at 10-5 behind first place Villanova (13-2).
The Huskies have five players hitting over .300 in conference play in Lexi Hastings (.537), Hope Jenkins (.392), Jana Sanden (.341), Grace Jenkins (.333), and Rosie Garcia (.317). All five of those Huskies have combined to drive in 57 of the Huskies 71 runs in conference play this season. Hastings leads the Huskies with 19 multi-hit games this season including four three-hit games. She currently has reached base safely in seven straight games. Hastings was named to BIG EAST honor roll the past two straight weeks.
UConn's pitching staff has been rock solid in conference play holding a collective 2.20 era with 117 strikeouts in 101.2 innings. The Huskies have four pitchers with sub 3.00 era's in conference play in Hope Jenkins (0.86), Meghan O'Neil (1.75), Hallie Siems (2.33), and Payton Kinney (2.74). Kinney is coming off a career high performance last Saturday as she struck out a game high 15 against Creighton. Siems leads the Huskies pitching staff with 121 strikeouts in 105.0 innings pitched this season. The senior was named to BIG EAST honor roll this past week.
Seton Hall (19-15) is coming off their bye weekend from conference play. The defending BIG EAST Tournament champions currently are in fourth place in the BIG EAST standings at 9-6. Seton Hall is led by junior outfielder Taylor Hill as she leads the Pirates in batting average, hits, runs, and home runs. The Huskies won last year's series in Storrs, taking two out of three from the Pirates. UConn leads the all-time series 42-19.
The series opener is set for Friday, April 19 at 2:00pm. Game two will be on Saturday, April 20 at 12:00pm. The series finale will be on Sunday, April 21 at 12:00pm. All games will be streamed on FloSoftball.
