Huskies Set to Host Seton Hall This Weekend
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team will welcome the Seton Hall Pirates to Burrill Family Field for the Huskies home opening weekend in Storrs. The series is set to begin on Friday, March 21 at 3:00pm, with game two coming on Saturday, March 22 at 2:30pm. The series finale will be on Sunday, March 22 at 2:00pm. UConn comes into the weekend with a 13-11 overall record this season. The Huskies started out BIG EAST play with a series win over Villanova two weekends ago. UConn currently sits in fourth place in the conference standings with a 2-1 record in BIG EAST play.
UConn's offense has displayed power up and down the lineup this season as the Huskies lead the BIG EAST with 26 home runs this season, ranking 46th nationally hitting 1.08 home runs per game. Junior catcher Grace Jenkins leads the Huskies with seven homers this season. Jenkins also leads the Huskies in batting average (.377), doubles (9), runs batted in (27), and walks (11).
UConn's pitching staff has been led this season by Graduate student Payton Kinney who leads the staff in era with a 2.06. Kinney is holding opposing batters to a .203 average against her this season. The Huskies staff ranks second in the BIG EAST in strikeouts (109), and third in opposing batting average (.270).
Scouting Seton Hall (15-10)
The Seton Hall Pirates have had a strong start to their BIG EAST slate, going 5-1 through their first two series against Georgetown and DePaul, putting the Pirates in third place in the conference standings. Seton Hall is coached by Angie Churchill in her fourth season at the Hall. The Pirates offense has led the way this season with nine players hitting over .300. Seton Hall returned All-Conference first teamers Kelsey Carr, Olivia Gilbert, and the reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Katey Brennan to their 2025 roster. UConn won last year's series at Seton Hall, 2-1. The Huskies lead the all-time series, 44-20.
