Huskies Fall In Game One at Creighton
OMAHA, Neb. – The UConn softball team fell to the Creighton Bluejays, 7-6 in extra innings in game one at the CU Sports Complex. Game two was suspended in the top of the sixth inning with UConn leading, 21-18. The game will be resumed on Saturday, March 29 at 2:00pm EST in the top of the sixth inning.
Game One
Graduate student Payton Kinney made her 12th start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. Kinney was sensational through her first six innings as the Florida native limited the Bluejays to just two hits, retiring 16 straight batters. Kinney ended up going 7.0 innings giving up six runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
The game was a pitcher's duel throughout as both teams combined for only five hits through the first five innings.
Freshman infielder Cat Petteys broke the deadlock in the top of the sixth inning, hitting her fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot to left field, giving UConn a 2-0 lead.
UConn added four runs to their lead in the top of the seventh inning, making it 6-0. Junior infielder Kaiea Higa plated the Huskies third run with a double down the left field line, scoring Lexi Hastings from second base. Sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Breslin delivered the big hit of the inning with a three-run home run to right field, her sixth of the season.
Creighton rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 6-6, sending the game to extra innings.
Junior Hope Jenkins came on in relief for Kinney in the seventh, making her 20th appearances of the season for the Huskies. Jenkins only faced one batter before Kinney re-entered the circle.
Redshirt-sophomore Sydnee Koosh came on in relief for Kinney in the eighth inning, making her 18thappearance of the season for the Huskies.
Creighton won the game in the bottom of the eighth with a walk-off single.

- Payton Kinney retired 16 straight batters.
- Payton Kinney recorded her 400th career strikeout in the first inning. She becomes just the sixth player in program history to surpass the 400 K milestone.
- Haley Coupal recorded her first career three-hit game. Coupal now has back to back multi-hit games, giving her three this season.
- Kaitlyn Breslin homered in back to back games. Breslin records her sixth multi-RBI game this season and has ten RBI in her last five games.
- Cat Petteys recorded her eight multi-hit and fourth multi-RBI game this season. She now has four home runs in her freshman campaign.
- Kaiea Higa recorded her fourth straight multi-hit game, giving her nine this season.
- UConn left nine runners on base.

UConn will resume game two on Saturday, March 29 at 2:00pm EST. After the conclusion of game two, the Huskies will play game three with Creighton scheduled as of now at 4:30pm EST, televised live on FS1.
