Rookie Standout Cat Petteys Receives National Recognition

STORRS, Conn. – UConn standout freshman infielder Cat Petteys has been recognized by D1 Softball as the National Freshman of the Week. Petteys becomes the second Husky this season to receive a National Player of the Week award.

This past week against Fairfield, Petteys knocked in her eighth RBI in three games, helping lead UConn to a 9-0 run rule win. Over the weekend at DePaul, Petteys hit .583 with seven hits, two doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, and seven runs scored. Her 1.250 slugging percentage led the Huskies offense, as the rookie posted a .706 on base percentage. In Saturday's comeback win, Petteys hit the go-ahead home run in extra innings, her tenth this season, giving her the most home runs in a season by a freshman in program history.

Petteys recently earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors for the second week in a row, and the fourth time this season.
