WSOC BIG weekend against Xavier & Georgetown
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The UConn women's soccer team (6-1-2, 0-0-1 BIG EAST) faces off against No. 21 Xavier (8-1-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) on Thursday, September 26 at 7 p.m. at Corcoran Field and follow it up with a home match up against Georgetown (5-1-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) on Sunday, September 29 at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on FloSports.
Both the Musketeers and Hoyas have consistently been NCAA Tournament teams with both programs making it to four-straight fall NCAA Tournaments.
The Huskies are looking to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016 and this weekend could go a long way to getting UConn back for the 32nd time.
UConn has put itself in position with an RPI of 37, third-best among BIG EAST teams with Georgetown (25) and Xavier (30) the two teams in front of the Huskies. Giving UConn a pair of opportunities to bolster its resume this weekend.
The Huskies are coming off a 3-3 draw at St. John's that pushed their unbeaten streak to seven matches in a row. UConn trailed 3-0 in the match and rallied on the road to earn a point. It was the first time the Huskies rallied from a three-goal deficit to earn a result.
Chioma Okafor has already set a career-high with seven goals this season, including three from the penalty spot. The Huskies have had 12 different goal scorers this year and 14 different players contribute at least a point.
UConn is seeking its first-ever win against Xavier with an 0-3 all-time mark with all three meetings coming after the Huskies rejoined the BIG EAST in 2021.
Against Georgetown, the Huskies are 12-7-1 vs. the Hoyas and are seeking their first win against the Hoyas since 2021.
The UConn offense has been clicking with the Huskies averaging three goals per game (18 goals) in their last six matches.
