WSOC: Okafor NSCAA All-American, Cappadona, Mazo All-East Region

KANSAS CITY - The NSCAA announced its All-American and All-Region teams this week with UConn sophomore forward Chioma Okafor earning Third Team All-American honors and First Team All-East Region. Fifth senior midfielder Jessica Mazo and Lucy Cappadona garned Third Team All-Region distinction.

Okafor becomes the first UConn player to accomplish All-American accolades since 2016 when both Rachel Hill and Stephanie Ribiero were named NSCAA All-Americans for the second time.

The Blantyre, Malawi native led the Huskies with six goals and 15 points in her 19 games this season, all while battling injury throughout a large portion of the season. Okafor earned First Team All-BIG EAST accolades while pacing the conference with 3.74 shots per game.

Mazo closed out her UConn career with a career-high four goals on the season and was a leader the Huskies looked to all season long. The Bridgeport, Conn. native earned First Team All-BIG EAST recognition and ranked fourth on the team in minutes played (1442) from her midfield position.

Cappadona anchored a defense that posted 11 shutouts on the season and tied for 15th in the country with a .579 shutout percentage. She was part of a unit that only allowed three goals in BIG EAST play, the fewest amount of goals allowed in conference play since 2000. The defense tied for eighth in the country with a .526 goals against average. The Marlborough, Mass native captured Second Team All-BIG EAST with her strong campaign.
