WSOC Loses 1-0 to Georgetown in BIG EAST Semi's

BOYDS, MD. - The UConn women's soccer team (10-4-5) were narrowly defeated, 1-0, by No. 2 seeded Georgetown (11-1-7) in the BIG EAST Semifinals on Thursday night at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

The Huskies outplayed the Hoyas for large stretches of the match but were unable to find the back of the net.

Just five minutes into the game, fifth year senior Jessica Mazo created an opportunity but slid her shot just wide of goal.

Fellow fifth year senior Cara Jordan followed up her chance on a great feed into the box by Chioma Okafor. The sophomore received a pass near midfield spun around and used her speed to create space and slid a beautiful ball forward to Jordan who with a tough angle just slid her shot high.

In the late stages of the first 45, Okafor found herself in the box and tried to fire a shot on goal but her shot seemed to be tipped and forced the ball over the bar.

The Huskies outshot the Hoyas, 6-5, in the first half and created the lion's share of the opportunities but entered halftime tied 0-0.

The Hoyas broke through early in the second half with a goal,  forcing the Huskies to chase the game.

The goal did not change the Huskies mentality as they continued to creat chances to find an equalizer. The best chance came in the 75th minute with Jordan playing a ground ball pass into the six, that Abbey Jones got a one touch shot on but it went right into the dive of the Georgetown keeper, keeping it 1-0 Hoyas.

A few moments later, Mazo got some space as she weaved past a pair of defenders and launched a shot towards the top of goal, but Hoyas goalkeeper Allie Augur was able to parry it over the bar.

The Huskies will now wait until Monday, November 6 at 4 p.m. for the NCAA Selection Show on NCAA.com to see if their season will continue on in the postseason.
