WSOC Secures Second-Straight Road Shutout, Beating BU, 2-0
BOSTON - The UConn women's team (2-1-1) posted its second-straight shutout road victory with a 2-0 result at Boston University on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Senior defender Laci Lewis set a new career-high with assists on both UConn goals while grad student Kaitlyn Mahoney registered her 21st career shutout with a pair of saves.
UConn broke onto the score sheet in the 34th minute on a perfectly timed centering lob from Lewis. The West Haven, Conn. native raced towards the endline and served a curling ball that found a streaking Lina Dantes inside the box. The junior volleyed home the service for her first career goal at UConn and put the Huskies ahead, 1-0.
After the halftime break, the Terriers came out seeking an equalizer and had a great opportunity in the 58th minute on a shot from the top of the box that looked destined for the upper 90. However, the Huskies 2023 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, Mahoney, lept in the air and made a sprawling save that knocked the ball off the post and eventually was cleared out of trouble.

About 10 minutes later it was Lewis doubling the UConn lead by setting up junior Chioma Okafor with her second goal of the season. Lewis snagged a 50-50 ball and stormed past the BU defender into open space and fed Okafor inside the six. Okafor buried her 14th career goal to give the Huskies some breathing room.
The Huskies closed out the remaining 21 minutes without incident to notch their first-ever win at Nickerson Field.
UConn now heads home for a four-match home stand that begins on Thursday, Sept. 5 against Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m.
