WSOC Looking to Start New Streak

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (6-2-3, 0-1-2 BIG EAST) gears up for another BIG EAST weekend with a home contest against Providence at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 and then hit to road for Omaha, Neb. for a Sunday, Oct. 6 contest at Creighton at 2 p.m. ET.

UConn just had its season-long eight-match unbeaten streak snapped on Sunday with a 3-1 defeat to Georgetown at Morrone Stadium (Last loss came August 22nd).

Junior Chioma Okafor scored the lone Huskies goal against the Hoyas, the third-straight game that the UConn striker has scored in. Okafor still paces the BIG EAST with nine goals and 20 points on the campaign.

The UConn offense has not been shut out this season through its first 11 games, comparing to last year's squad the Huskies had been shut out in four of its first 11 matches. The 11-game stretch is the longest since the 2014 season. The Huskies haven't scored in 12-straight to begin a season since 2002.

The Huskies look to regain their form on defense with a unit that allowed just six goals in non-conference play (6-1-1). However, in three games in BIG EAST play, UConn has already surrendered seven goals (0-1-2).

Tied for seventh after three BIG EAST matches, the Huskies have an opportunity to make up ground on teams in front of them with Providence (6 pts) and Creighton (3 pts) right in front of them.

The Friars are 5-4-1 overall entering Thursday's match and is 2-0 in conference play with victories against St. John's (1-0) and Butler (1-0).

Creighton is 4-4-1 on the season with a 1-2 mark in league play. With a win against Marquette and losses coming to Georgetown and Villanova.
