Okafor Named a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior Chioma Okafor has been named as a 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist based on voting by the NCAA Division I women's soccer coaches. The United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) announced the 19 women's semifinalists on Wednesday afternoon.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Most recently, Ousmane Sylla (Clemson) and Onyi Echegini (Florida State) received the award for outstanding intercollegiate performances last year.
Okafor led the BIG EAST Conference and the Huskies with 13 goals and 30 points on the season. The Blantyre, Malawi native is the first UConn player to be named a semifinalist since Rachel Hill and Stephanie Ribiero were both recognized in 2016.
Three women's finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 11. The 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 3, 2025, to formally announce this year's winners.
Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite player. Go to MACHermannnTrophy.org for the women's semifinal ballot.
