WSOC Back in BIG EAST Final On Sunday

BOYDS, MD. - The UConn women's soccer team (12-4-4) play for a BIG EAST Championship on Sunday, November 10 against No. 2 seeded Xavier at 11 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 (FS1). 

The Huskies make their return to the BIG EAST Final for the first time since rejoining the conference in 2020 and since playing in the 2008 BIG EAST Final. It is the 12th time in program history that UConn has played in the BIG EAST Final

UConn has won two BIG EAST Tournament Championships with the last one coming back in 2004 (Also won in 2002). 

The 2024 Huskies are riding a four-game win streak with 2-0 victories against No. 4 seeded Creighton in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals and No. 1 seeded Georgetown in the BIG EAST Semifinals.

Graduate student and captain Lucy Cappadona has scored in back-to-back games and the Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree has helped lead the UConn defense to four shutouts in the last five matches. 

Senior Maddie Fried transferred to UConn for moments like Thursday night. The Monroe, Conn. native scored the game-winner against the top-seeded Hoyas and have put the Huskies a step away from its first NCAA Tournament since 2016. 

Since returning the the starting lineup, graduate student Kaitlyn Mahoney has secured five shutouts in seven matches.

The regular season meeting (Sept. 26) between the Huskies and Musketeers ended in a 1-1 draw with UConn leading in shots, 18-15, and Chioma Okafor tallying the lone goal for the Huskies.

UConn is seeking its first-ever win against Xavier with an 0-3-1 overall record against the Musketeers.
