WSOC Extends Win Streak to Five, Defeat Yale

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (5-1-1) extended its win streak to five matches with a 2-1 triumph against Yale on Thursday evening at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.

The five match win streak is the longest for the Huskies since the 2016 season.

Junior Chioma Okafor notched a brace for the second-straight game and the 2023 Third Team All-American has already tied her season-high with six goals this year.

Okafor broke the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute by chipping home her first tally of the night.

12 minutes later, Okafor headed a pass from Lucy Cappadona past the keeper and sprinted past everyone to score on an unoccupied goal.

Trailing 2-0 at the start of the second half, the Bulldogs were given a red card just 1:34 second into the half and had to play a player down the rest of the match.

Yale did draw a step closer in the 57th minute with a goal by Vienna Lundstedt but that is as close as the Bulldogs would get.

Goalkeeper Kailtyn Mahoney made three stops in net to preserve the victory.

The Huskies have now scored multiple goals in four-straight matches. The four-match streak ties the Huskies longest stretch from last season.

Next up, the Huskies host Texas A&M on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. at Morrone Stadium to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.
