WSOC Wins 10th Match, Clinches BIG EAST Tournament Berth

STORRS, Conn. - Senior Laci Lewis scored her first career goal on Senior Day to help the UConn women's soccer team (10-4-4, 4-3-3 BIG EAST) defeat Seton Hall, 1-0, and clinch a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament.

Lewis, one of nine seniors honored on Senior Day, teed up a shot in the 20th minute that caromed off the right post and into the back of the net.

UConn dominated the match with a 21-4 shot advantage and graduate student Kaitlyn Mahoney secured the shutout without facing a single shot on goal. The shutout is the 25th in the career of Mahoney.

Senior Maddie Fried led the Huskies with six total shots including four shots on goal. Junior Chioma Okafor also tallied six shots on the afternoon but only one on goal.

The shutout is the eighth of the season for the Huskies defense.

The victory for the Huskies was the 10th of the season, the first time since 2016 that the Huskies have won double digit regular season matches. UConn has also captured back-to-back double digit win seasons since the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Next up, the Huskies await Thursday's final match day results to see if they will play at Creighton or at Butler for the BIG EAST Quarterfinals. The Quarterfinal match up will be on Sunday, November 3rd.
