Huskies Row to a Successful Season Opener
The UConn Rowing team competed in their first competition of the fall season at the Head of the Riverfront in Hartford, CT. Due to the high water and strong current, the course was shortened to 3000 meters. UConn had a good showing from all boats, finishing 4th, 8th, and 19th out of 25 entries in the Open 8 event, and finishing 1st, 5th, 8th, and 10th out of 16 boats in the Open 4 event.
Head Coach Jen Sanford commented, "Every boat took something positive away from their row today. We always talk in practice about tenths of seconds separating teams related to results, and we were on both ends of that today. The Varsity 8 missed out on medaling in the morning by three tenths of a second. The open four took that messaging and were on the winning side of a very small margin, taking the race by six tenths of a second. It was a great way to end the day. Today gave us good momentum as a team moving forward this fall, with our eyes now focused on the Head of the Charles in a few weeks."
