Huskies Finish Strong in Head of the Schuylkill
The UConn Rowing team had a successful showing at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia. Racing in the Husky uniform for the first time was the Freshman/Novice eight. Freshman recruits Izzy Kellman and Evelyn Erofeyev were coxswain and stroke, with 7 new walk-on rowers sitting behind them. They executed the race exactly as planned and finished 11th out of 19 boats, and had an overall successful outing. UConn had two eights entered in the Club Championship eight event, and finished 12th and 28th out of 42 boats. The best performance of the day for UConn came in the Championship Four event, where UConn finished 3rd, 5th, and 15th out of 52 boats.
Coach Sanford commented, " I'm happy with the results today, particularly seeing the fours finish so high in the field and the top two fours being within 3 seconds of each other. Next week they will get back into the eight and will see what we can do racing teams in a 2K versus a head race on Sunday in Ridgefield NJ. Overall it was a great day of racing and the beautiful weather was welcomed with open arms!"
