Huskies Show Strength at Knecht Cup
Cherry Hill, NJ - The University of Connecticut women's rowing team had strong results at the Knecht Cup Regatta. The Huskies had five boats entered that each advanced to Sunday's finals. The 2nd Varsity Four earned a spot in the petite final, but had to scratch due to a crew member illness. The 3rd Varsity 8 raced in a four boat final and placed a strong second. The Varsity 4 missed the grand final by three seconds, but won the petite final giving them an overall finish of 7th out of twenty-seven teams. The 2nd Varsity 8 had two great races Saturday that advanced them to the grand final. They would go on to finish 6th out of twenty teams. The Varsity 8 earned a spot in the petite final and overall finished 10th of out twenty-four teams. Of the weekend's success, Coach Jen Sanford said, "I'm overall very happy with the progress we continue to make. Each weekend of racing has shown a lot of improvement. This weekend's results showed that as we saw some margins decrease between us and teams we have already seen this season. I'm excited to see how much speed we can gain this week going into the Holy Cross Invitational."
