Huskies Dominate on Senior Day

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's lacrosse team (9-6, 4-1) dominated the Butler Bulldogs on Senior Day.

The Huskies honored their seven seniors in a pregame ceremony on Saturday afternoon at home in Storrs, Conn. This is the final time these seniors will be playing in Morrone Stadium.

Three Huskies, Kate Shaffer, Abby Charron, and Lauren Barry, scored to open the game. Butler fought back, notching two in a row, before Shaffer and Morgan Carter put the Huskies back on top by three goals. Butler scored again in the final minute of the first quarter, which was quickly followed up by a UConn goal from Jenna Giardina with two seconds left on the clock.

UConn struck first in the second quarter on a goal from senior, Susan Lafountain. Butle notched another goal before UConn would go back-to-back from Barry and Shaffer. The Bulldogs went on a 3-0 run in the middle of the second period, but was answered by UConn who went on their own 3-0 run to end the half, 12-7.

The Bulldogs and the Huskies traded off points to open the third quarter. Lafountain found the back of the net, which was answered by Butler. Lafountain, once again, scored to extend the lead back to six. Butler had another answer for that goal to cut their lead to five before Shaffer and Giardina went back-to-back. Butler closed out the third period with two goals in a row, their final goals of the game. The Huskies solidified the game with a shutout in the fourth quarter, making the final score 21-11.

The Huskies will head to the nation's capital for their final game of the regular season as the take on the Georgetown Hoyas. Opening draw is set for 1:00pm on Saturday, April 27th in Washington, D.C.
