Huskies Dominate Musketeers in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The UConn women's lacrosse team (7-5, 3-1) dominated the Xavier Musketeers in a conference road game on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies have now won three conference games in a row, all by 10 or more goals.

Senior, Lauren Barry, opened the game with a goal for the Huskies early into the first quarter. Xavier fought back to notch one of their own, before UConn went on 3-0 run with goals from Susan Lafountain, Abby Charron, and Eliza Bowman. The Musketeers cut the lead to two as they scored their second goal of the day. Grad student, Jenna Giardina, closed the scoring for the Huskies as she notched one of her own to make it 5-2 at the end of the first period.

The Huskies opened the second quarter scoring five unanswered goals, one of which was a free position attempt for Rayea Davis. Lafountain notched herself a hat trick early into the game. The Musketeers then scored three unanswered goals of their own to cut the lead to five. The game was scoreless for the final five minutes leading into halftime at 10-5.

It was a dominant third quarter for the Huskies as they notched eight goals to force a running clock. The Musketeers scored one goal early into the period, until UConn scored seven unanswered. Anna Zimmermann had her first goal of the game during the scoring run. Each team notched one more goal in the final period of the game, UConn's from sophomore, Karsyn Burnash, to make the final score 19-7.

The Huskies outshot the Musketeers, 45-26 today, while going 18-11 on draw controls. Grad student, Madelyn George, had 11 of the Husky draws today, tying her season-high. Senior defensive player, Megan Whitley, had a career-high game, causing five turnovers and collecting five ground balls. Lafountain scored five goals for the Huskies and collected one ground ball, while Charron notched three goals and three assists. Bowman had a season-high four goals in the win. Goalkeeper, Landyn White, had five saves, while freshman, Sofia Oximana made three saves. White caused two turnovers and collected five ground balls.

The Huskies will stay on the road as they head up to UAlbany next Saturday, April 13th for a match against the Great Danes. Opening draw is set for 1:00 pm.
