Lacrosse Falls to #4 Yale Wednesday Afternoon
STORRS, Conn.- UConn lacrosse (5-3) was defeated by #4 Yale Wednesday afternoon, with the undefeated Bulldogs controlling the momentum throughout the second half.
First Quarter:
- Yale got on the board one minute into the game, with Jenna Collignon converting the free position shot
- Tori Cini (Syosset, N.Y.) made two saves in the opening minutes to keep the Bulldog lead at one.
- Fallon Vaughn doubled the lead for Yale on the free-position attempt to go up 2-0
- Eliza Bowman (Greenwich, Conn.) cut the lead in half, scoring a goal on the feed from Eve McGrogan (Nyack, N.Y.)
- Collignon capped off the hat trick in the first, scoring on the free-position and then adding another for the fourth-ranked Bulldogs to stretch the lead to 4-1
- Yale tacked on another goal to take a 5-1 lead into the second quarter
Second Quarter:
- Rayea Davis (Henrietta, N.Y.) scored halfway through the second to cut the Bulldog lead to 5-2.
- Davis struck again merely seconds later, bringing the Huskies even closer
- Collignon continued her strong afternoon for Yale, with her fourth goal of the game to respond
- Sky Carrasquillo capitalized on a UConn green card for Yale's seventh goal of the half
- Davis completed the first half hat-trick, as the Huskies went into the break trailing 7-4.
Third Quarter:
- Emma Dacey (Hopkinton, Mass.) opened the scoring in the second half for UConn, sending in a goal after a sweet find from Megan O'Brien (Morris Plains, N.J.).
- UConn kept the pressure on in the third, with McGrogan and Jenna Giardina (South Salem, N.Y.) scoring goals in rapid succession to bring the Yale lead to a single goal
- The undefeated Bulldogs hunkered down to close the quarter, scoring four answered goals to take a 12-7 lead, following goals from Carrasquillo, Collignon, and two from Taylor Lane
Fourth Quarter:
- Yale continued to put their foot on the gas in the fourth, scoring five more unanswered goals to run their advantage to 17-7.
- Davis scored her 100th career goal with a minute left in the quarter, but it would not be enough, as the Huskies fell to Yale 18-7.
Up Next: UConn will look to bounce back on the road next Wednesday, traveling to New York to face off against Columbia University.
