Lacrosse Defeats Hofstra to Close Out March

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.- UConn women's lacrosse capped off nonconference play with an impressive 18-12 win on the road against the Hofstra Pride Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened:

Karsyn Burnash (Adams Center, N.Y.) got the Huskies on the board less than a minute into the game, capitalizing on a Pride turnover. Following a Hofstra equalizer on the woman-up advantage, Rayea Davis (Henrietta, N.Y.) scored her 30th goal of the season to put the Huskies back in front, and followed it up with a free-position goal to build a 3-1 lead for the visitors. In a hotly contested first quarter, Jenna Giardina (South Salem, N.Y.) scored the fourth goal for the Huskies. Davis completed the hat trick in the first quarter, and Emma Dacey (Hopkinton, Mass.) converted on the free-position attempt. Eliza Bowman (Greenwich, Conn.) capped off a 7 goal first for the Huskies, taking a 7-4 lead into the second.

Dacey scored her second of the day early in the second quarter, with Kelsey Neary (Arlington Heights, Ill.) following up with her second goal of the season to extend the UConn lead to 9-5. The Pride stormed back in the second, with four goals in four minutes to even the score at 9-all, forcing the Huskies into a timeout. Hofstra tacked on another goal to take a 10-9 lead into the break.

Neary scored her second of the afternoon for her first career multi-goal game to level the score at 10 in the opening minutes of the third. Hofstra responded to reclaim the lead, but Bowman's second of the day brought a wild game even at 11 apiece in the third. UConn rode the momentum in the last two minutes of the third, as Dacey and Bowman completed their hat tricks, with Burnash pouring in her second of the day to send the Huskies to the fourth ahead 14-11.

The duo of Bowman and Dacey put the lead out of reach for the Huskies, each chipping in their 4th goal each as the Huskies closed out nonconference play with a 17-12 win over Hofstra.

Of Note: Riley Daly (Ipswich, Mass.) recorded the 100th draw control of her career. Davis had a career-high 6 assists, one shy of the program record. Meghan Lane (Wilton, Conn.) recorded a career-high 12 draw controls. Dacey poured in a career high 4 goals.

Up Next: UConn will kick off April in Indianapolis against Butler at 12:00pm on Wednesday, April 2nd.
