Lacrosse Heads to Marquette for BIG EAST Matchup
STORRS, Conn.- UConn women's lacrosse will head back on the road Saturday afternoon for another BIG EAST conference game, facing off against the Marquette Golden Eagles at Valley Fields in Milwaukee at 1:00pm. UConn leads the all-time series 10-2 over Marquette, winning last year's matchup 17-7 in Storrs.
UConn Snapshot (9-4, 2-1 BIG EAST):
The Huskies come in winners of their last three games, punctuated by a historic 14-13 overtime win over four-time defending conference champion Denver University last Sunday in Storrs. Emma Dacey tied the game for the Huskies with just seven seconds in regulation before Kelsey Neary scored the overtime winner for UConn, lifting the hosts to their first ever win over the Pioneers.
Neary and Abby Beran took home weekly BIG EAST Awards following a 2-0 week for the Huskies. Neary scored two goals and added two ground balls, once caused turnover, and one draw control in the OT win to earn Midfielder of the Week. Beran anchored the Husky defense with four ground balls, three caused turnovers, and five draw controls against Denver to win Defensive Player of the Week. UConn comes into the matchup against Marquette with the 13th ranked scoring defense in the country, only allowing 9.23 goals per game.
Despite trailing 12-7 late in the third quarter, the Huskies were able to claw their way back into the game, aided by career days from Ava Plata and Jenna Giardina. Plata registered career highs in goals (4) and points (6). Giardina continued to lead the Huskies in facilitation, pouring in a career high five assists to reach 30 for the season.

Marquette welcomes the Huskies to Milwaukee ahead of their final regular season home game, where they will honor eight student-athletes prior to the game for Senior Day.
The Golden Eagles will look to bounce back after dropping their last two games, falling to Villanova 15-8 in their most recent game last Sunday. Standout senior and Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Meg Bireley headlines Marquette. Bireley has a whopping 53 goals in 13 games, the 7th most in the nation.
Bireley is joined by Hanna Bodner (37 goals) and Tess Osburn (31 goals) on the attack. Bodner has been named BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week three times this season, highlighted by a career-high 8 goals in a win over Arizona State. Bodner also leads the team in draw controls (40) and ground balls (32).
