Landyn White Earns 2023-2024 BIG EAST Sports Excellence Award
STORRS, Conn.- The BIG EAST Conference has announced the winners of the 2023-24 BIG EAST Sport Excellence Awards, which recognize academic and athletic achievement as well as community service.
Of the 22 overall award winners, UConn was represented by graduate student Landyn White (Alpharetta, Ga.), who earned the award for women's lacrosse. White posted a 3.650 grade-point average while studying allied health.
The Sport Excellence Awards are given to one student-athlete in each BIG EAST-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible. The winners are chosen by the BIG EAST Faculty Athletics Representative Council.
White is a two-time recipient of the BIG EAST Sport Excellence Award, being honored in the 2021-2022 season as well. In 2023-2024, White was named to the All-BIG-EAST First Team. Additionally, White was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year for the third consecutive season, the most selections of anyone since the award was introduced in 2015. As captain in 2024, White made 174 saves on the season, punctuated by a season-high 18 at Denver on 3/24.
In 2024, White was a USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention, and was recognized by the IWLCA on the Northeast Region Second Team, as well as the Senior All-Star Game. Along with eleven other Huskies, White made the IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll.
White started in goal all 18 games, with a save percentage of .490, highlighted by double-digit save performances in 7 games.
White made 771 saves while a member of the Huskies and notched 49 wins, both program records.
