Huskies Defeat Golden Eagles in front of Record-high Attendance

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's lacrosse team (5-5, 0-1) defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles, 17-7, at home on Saturday afternoon in front of a record-high 681 fans at Morrone Stadium.

The wind didn't stop the Huskies from rolling to a win today as Lauren Barry opened the game on a goal from Rayea Davis. The duo would go on to repeat that play two more times, with Barry scoring a total of four goals for the Huskies, while Davis tied her career-high with five assists; Davis posted five assists last season against Marquette as well.

Marquette couldn't keep up as the UConn offense was led by Davis who, once again, tied a career-high with five goals, three of which were on free position shots. Barry and Susan Lafountain notched four goals apiece, while Eliza Bowman scored two. The offense was rounded out with a goal from Kate Shaffer and one from Maddy George.

The Huskies locked it down on defense, posting a season-high 15 caused turnovers and 24 ground balls. Veteran goalkeeper, Landyn White, had nine saves, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls. Rylee Brown caused a career-high five turnovers, while collecting five ground balls and winning two draws. Freshman, Abby Beran, continues to shine on defense as she won four draws, caused one turnover, and had two ground balls for the Huskies.

UConn will stay home as they host the Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon at Morrone Stadium. Opening draw is set for 1:00 pm EST on April 3rd and will be live-streamed on FloSports.
