Lacrosse Battles Fairfield on Wednesday Afternoon
STORRS, Conn.- Following a thrilling overtime win over Drexel in the season opener, UConn lacrosse welcomes in-state opponent Fairfield University on Wednesday afternoon in Storrs. The Huskies were ranked #24 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and received votes and consideration in the IWLCA Coaches' and USA Lacrosse Poll.
Eve McGrogan was the hero last Saturday, scoring her third goal of the game in overtime to lift the Huskies to a 10-9 win. The three goal performance from McGrogan was the first time in her collegiate career that she scored multiple goals in a single game, earning the sophomore BIG EAST Attacker of the Week honors. Defensively, Riley Daly anchored the Huskies in the win, with a career-high 11 draw controls, as the UConn captain won Defensive Player of the Week.
Fairfield Snapshot:
Fairfield is looking to rebound after dropping their season opener to Holy Cross, 22-13. In the loss, the Stags were led on the offensive end by attacker Kelly Haggerty, who had three goals and one assist to go along with seven shots (five on goal). Fairfield was picked to win the MAAC conference title ahead of the season, receiving seven of twelve first-place votes. In 2024, the Stags earned the first-ever NCAA Tournament at-large bid in MAAC history, the eighth tournament appearance in the program's history. Brynn Donnelly, one of three stags on the Preseason All-MAAC Team, was a unanimous selection after 117 draw controls in 19 games. Donnelly was joined on the All-MAAC Team by midfielder Haley Burns, and defender Macey Daly. Fairfield is coached by Laura Field, the longest-tenured coach in the program's history, now in her 10th season at the helm.
All-Time Series: UConn leads the series between the programs 15-6, with Fairfield taking the last matchup 11-9 on February 14th, 2024.
