Huskies Fall to UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – The UConn women's lacrosse team (8-6) fell to the UMass Minutewomen on Wednesday evening in a 19-9 contest on the road.

UMass got a 5-0 start over the Huskies during the first few minutes of the game. The Huskies fought back, scoring three goals to one during the remaining 10 minutes in the first quarter. UConn's goals were scored by Morgan Carter, Kate Shaffer, and Susan Lafountain.

The first eight minutes of the second quarter proved to be a defensive battle, with neither team adding to their score. By the end of the period, UConn would tack on one more goal from Rayea Davis, her first of the evening, while the Minutewomen added another four goals to their total, making the game 10-4 going into halftime.

UMass outscored the Huskies 6-2 in the third, with goals from Shaffer and Davis breaking up the Minutewomen offense. Davis tacked on another three goals in the final period of the game, tying her season-high five goals in a single game. As time ticked down, the final score read 19-9.

Davis led the UConn offense with five goals and one assist, while Shaffer had two goals and one assist. The Husky defense was led by Amanda Moghadasi, who caused three turnovers and collected four ground balls.

The Huskies will return to Storrs, Conn. for their final home game of the season on Saturday, April 20th as they take on the Butler Bulldogs. UConn will honor their seniors in a pregame ceremony as they play their final game on Morrone. Opening draw set for 12:00 pm.
