Lacrosse Wraps Up Nonconference Slate Against Hofstra
STORRS, Conn.- UConn women's lacrosse (6-4) will finish the nonconference portion of their schedule on Saturday, hitting the road to take on the Hofstra Pride in Hempstead, New York.
UConn Snapshot:
The Huskies dropped their BIG EAST opener last weekend, falling to Villanova 11-7 on the road. In the loss, Jenna Giardina (South Salem, N.Y.) had two goals and an assist, continuing her streak of recording at least two points in every game this season. Riley Daly (Ipswich, Mass.) had two draw controls, moving two away from 100 in her Husky career. Tori Cini (Syosset, N.Y.) made 12 saves against Villanova. Abby Beran (Wading River, N.Y.) recorded four more ground balls against 'Nova. Beran ranks fifth in the country in ground balls per game (3.60). As a team, UConn is 19th in the country in clear percentage (.914).
Hofstra Snapshot:
The Pride welcome UConn to conclude their nonconference slate. Hofstra kicked off their CAA conference schedule in mid-March, going 1-2 in their first three games. Last time out, the Pride dropped a close game to Elon in North Carolina on March 23rd, falling by a score of 14-12. Despite the loss, leading scorer Nikki Mennella tallied 6 goals and 3 assists. Mennella has 33 goals and 25 assists on the season, ranking second in the country in points per game (6.44). The redshirt sophomore also leads the Pride in draw controls, with 45 on the season.
Christine Dannenfelser is the anchor for the Hofstra defense, leading the way with 26 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. Luchianna Cardello has started every game in goal for Hofstra, making 65 saves at a .396 save percentage.

The Huskies lead the series with Hofstra 3-2 all-time, securing wins in their last three matchups. UConn won their home opener against the Pride last year 13-11, boosted by four goals from Rayea Davis (Henrietta, N.Y.).
