Huskies announce 23-24 Team Awards

STORRS, Conn. The UConn women's hockey team have announced their team awards for the 2023-2024 season. The honorees were voted on by team members, who were recognized for their respective performances throughout the year, which was highlighted by the Huskies making the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history, winning the Hockey East Championship against Northeastern.

MVP- Tia Chan

For the second consecutive year, Tia Chan was voted 'MVP' by her teammates, for her outstanding performance throughout the season. The UConn goaltender started 24 games, posting a 13-7-4 record. Chan recorded 8 shutouts in goal, including a 38 save effort in the Hockey East Championship game to help UConn make the NCAA Tournament. Chan made 642 saves during the season, with a 1.30 GAA and .951 save percentage.

Pat Babcock Award- Ainsley Svetek

Winning the Pat Babcock Award for the second season in a row, Ainsley Svetek anchored the defense for UConn in a historic season for the team. Svetek scored 4 goals and notched 10 assists for a total of fourteen points. Svetek blocked a team-high 53 shots, and finished the season with a +8 +/-. 

Most Improved- Emma Eryou

Looking to build on her freshman season, Emma Eryou was a key contributor for the UConn defense. The sophomore from Nepean, Ontario dished out nine assists throughout the season. Eryou had a +/- of +11, and blocked 29 shots. 

Rookie of the Year- Ashley Allard

Freshman Ashley Allard burst onto the scene for the Huskies, scoring 6 goals and recording 10 assists. scored a goal in the Hockey East quarterfinal win against Holy Cross. Allard was a key contributor in the faceoff circle as well, winning 53% of her faceoffs. 

Unsung Hero- Kathryn Stockdale 

Kathryn Stockdale was crucial for the Hockey East Champion Huskies. The senior from Ottawa, Ontario was second on the team in goals with 11, along with 7 assists. Stockdale was the hero in the Hockey East semifinal, scoring the winning goal in overtime to beat Boston College. Stockdale had a +11 +/- on the season, with 96 shots on the year and 11 blocked shots.
