Huskies Bounce Back Against Sacred Heart
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The No. 14 ranked UConn women's hockey team defeated the Sacred Heart Pioneers, 4-2 in the Nutmeg Classic Consolation game on Saturday afternoon.
Sacred Heart opened the scoring midway through the first period off the stick of Kate Helgeson, her fifth of the season.
UConn responded quickly as sophomore forward Ashley Allard scored just 48 seconds after Sacred Heart, netting her fifth goal of the season and knotting the game at one.
The game remained tied heading into the first intermission as shots favored the Huskies 22-11 in the first period.
UConn's offense came to life in the second period, scoring three goals in the period and tallying 16 shots on goal.
Allard got it started with her second goal of the game, giving the Huskies the lead for good, 2-1.
Dartmouth graduate transfer Sophie Robinson netted the first goal of her career in a UConn uniform, and the game winner, making it 3-1.
Junior forward Brianna Ware capped off the Huskies stellar period in the offensive zone with her third goal of the season, putting UConn up 4-1.
Sacred Heart pulled a goal back off the stick of Alyssa Antonakis with under two minutes left in the second period, making it 4-2 going into the third period.
UConn goaltender Megan Warrener preserved UConn's lead making seven saves in the third period, giving Megan her second straight win and fourth of the season. Warrener finished with 13 saves in the game.
