Huskies Prep for Nutmeg Classic
STORRS, Conn. – The No. 14 ranked UConn women's hockey team is set to open the 2024 Nutmeg Classic against the Yale Bulldogs on Friday, November 29 at 6:00pm. UConn will play the winner of Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac in the championship or consolation games on Saturday, November 30. All games will be played at Martire Family Arena on the campus of Sacred Heart.
UConn (9-7) is coming off a weekend series split against nationally ranked Boston College. The Huskies blue line has led the way so far this season, ranking eighth nationally in scoring defense, giving up just 1.63 goals per game. Senior goaltenders Tia Chan (Hamilton, Ontario) and Megan Warrener (Stoney Creek, Ontario) together have conceded just 26 goals this season, ranking tenth nationally, and second in Hockey East.
Scouting Yale:
Yale (5-5-1) is coming into the weekend on a two game skid, losing to Clarkson and St. Lawrence last weekend. The Bulldogs are coached by Mark Bolding in his sixth season. Yale is led by junior forward Carina DiAntonio with ten points this season.
Scouting Sacred Heart:
Sacred Heart (11-3) is riding a seven game winning streak coming into the weekend. The Pioneers are coached by Thomas O'Malley in his 18th season. Sacred Heart has been led by sophomore forward Isabella Chaput with eleven points this season.
Scouting Quinnipiac:
No. 9 ranked Quinnipiac (11-4-2) are winners in five of their last seven games. The Bobcats are coached by Cassandra Turner in her tenth season. Quinnipiac is led by graduate defender Kendall Cooper with fifteen points this season. The Bobcats lead all of Division I with eight shutouts this season.
