Claire Murdoch Named Hockey East Rookie of the Year
STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's hockey rookie standout Claire Murdoch was tabbed as the 2024-25 Hockey East Rookie of the Year on Wednesday morning. Murdoch becomes just the second player in program history to receive the prestigious award.
Murdoch has played in all 35 games this season, scoring 13 goals and recording 16 assists. The Toronto, Ontario native has led the Huskies in points for most of this season and has ranked in the top of the conference in goals and points. Murdoch finished as the top freshman in Hockey East, recording 12 goals and 12 assists during regular season conference play. Her 29 points this season are the second most by a freshman in program history under head coach Chris MacKenzie (Natalie Snodgrass, 2017-18). Murdoch ranks first on the UConn roster with a 19 +/-, and second in shots (102), shot percentage (1.27), power play goals (3), and game winning goals (3). The rookie forward has yet to commit a penalty this season, staying out of the penalty box.
