Huskies Win a Thriller Over Holy Cross in Overtime

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 10 ranked UConn women's hockey team defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders, 2-1 in overtime on Friday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. UConn moves to 4-0 in Hockey East play and 5-4 overall this season. 

UConn goaltender Tia Chan made her fifth start of the season for the Huskies. Chan made 16 saves in the win, moving to 4-1 in games she has started this season. 

Holy Cross opened the scoring on the power play in the first period as Emily Crovo gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. UConn outshot Holy Cross 15-11 in the first frame. 

The Huskies turned up the pressure in the offensive zone in the second period, recording all 12 of their shots on goal. Holy Cross goaltender Abby Hornung did well to fend off UConn's attack, recording 36 saves on the night.

UConn found the equalizer with four minutes left in the third period as freshman forward Claire Murdoch knotted the game at one. Murdoch now leads the Huskies with four goals this season. 

The game remained tied at the end of regulation, sending the game to a five minute overtime period. UConn found a game winner two minutes into the overtime period off the stick of Ashley Allard. The sophomore forward has now scored two goals in her last three games.

UConn heads to Holy Cross to complete the two game series on Saturday, November 2. Puck drop is set for 2:00pm at Hart Center Rink.
