Huskies Honored with Hockey East Awards
STORRS, Conn. - With the conclusion of the UConn women's hockey season, the Huskies were recognized by their peers as they took home multiple awards/recognitions.
The Huskies hardware began with winning the program's first Hockey East Regular Season Championship.
Kicking off the awards was senior Kathryn Stockdale. Voted on by coaches across Hockey East, Kathryn Stockdale was named Hockey East Best Defensive Forward. In her senior season, Stockdale had one of her best seasons in a UConn uniform, finishing with 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points. Additionally, Stockdale had a +/- of +11 and blocked 11 total shots.
Freshman Ashley Allard also received recognition from conference coaches with a spot on the Hockey East All-Freshman Team. Allard made an impact in her first season in a UConn uniform, scoring six goals and dishing out 10 assists for 16 points. Allard also finished with a +17 +/- and had two game winning goals.
To wrap up the player awards, three Huskies were named to Hockey East All-Star teams. Graduate student Camryn Wong and Senior Jada Habisch were named first team All-Star, while junior Tia Chan was named a second team All-Star. All three players were instrumental for the Huskies, leading them to the Hockey East playoffs, and the team's first NCAA tournament appearance.
The final Hockey East award given to the Huskies was presented to head coach Chris Mackenzie, as he was named Hockey East Coach of the Year. Coach Mackenzie led the Huskies to their best season in program history, winning the Hockey East regular season title, and setting a program record for Hockey East wins.
