Huskies Skate to a tie at Boston College
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 15 ranked UConn women's hockey team shared points with the No. 11 ranked Boston College Eagles on Friday night, skating to a 1-1 tie. UConn won the shootout, earning an extra point in the Hockey East standings.
UConn goaltender Tia Chan was strong throughout, making 28 saves in the game. Chan continued her dominance into the shootout, saving all three of Boston College's penalty shots.
The game was scoreless through the first period as Boston College led in shots, 11-6.
The game remained scoreless throughout the second period with both teams generating more chances on goal, as shots were even at 15 a piece.
Freshman forward Claire Murdoch opened the scoring midway through the third period, her team leading seventh of the season to put the Huskies in front. Murdoch would later score the lone goal in the shootout.
Boston College found an equalizer with five minutes left in regulation as the Eagles leading goal scorer Sammy Taber netted her ninth goal of the season, tying the game at one and sending the game to overtime.
Both teams had great chances to win the game in the five minute overtime with nine shots on goal, five coming from the Huskies, but both goaltenders came up big when called upon.
Murdoch was the only penalty taker to find the back of the net in the shootout giving the Huskies the extra point.
