Huskies Surge in Third Period Comeback at UNH
DURHAM, N.H. – The No. 15 ranked UConn women's hockey team defeated the New Hampshire Wildcats, 2-1 on Friday night at the Whittemore Center. The Huskies scored two unanswered goals in the third period to sweep the season series from the Wildcats.
The game was scoreless through the first period as the Wildcats led in shots 12-5 in the first frame.
UNH took a 1-0 lead with 10:44 remaining in the second period as Kelly Harty tallied her first goal of the season.
UConn goaltender Tia Chan did well to shut the door on the Wildcats, keeping the game close for the Huskies. Chan finished with 27 saves in the game.
UConn went into the second intermission down a goal but generated a lot of pressure in the offensive zone in the second period, outshooting UNH 20-18.
The Huskies found the equalizer on the power play early in the third period. Senior forward Jada Habisch re-directed a shot in front of goal from senior defender Ava Rinker, tallying her fourth goal of the season.
Junior forward Kyla Josifovic netted the game winner with five minutes left in regulation, her fifth goal of the season. Josifovic now has three game winning goals this season.
