No. 1 Seed Huskies Face No. 2 Seed Northeastern in Hockey East Championship
STORRS, Conn. - The No. 1 seeded UConn women's ice hockey team prepares for the Hockey East Championship for the chance to claim the first conference championship trophy in program history against No. 2 seeded Northeastern on Saturday, March 9.
Last time out, the Huskies won in an overtime thriller against No. 4 seeded Boston College winning 2-1. In the regular season, UConn finished atop the leaderboard with an overall record of 24-7-5 and a Hockey East record of 19-4-4. Senior forward Jada Habisch has three points so far in the postseason with two goals and an assist. Junior goaltender Tia Chan in her last two games has collected 37 saves on three goals allowed. In the regular season, Chan finished with a save percentage of .946.
Scouting Northeastern
Heading into the matchup, the Northeastern Huskies are 25-10-3 overall and 16-8-3 in conference play. Last time out, the Huskies slipped away from No. 3 seeded New Hampshire with a score of 4-1 tacking on three additional goals in the final few minutes of the game on Wednesday, March 6. Forward Skylar Irving has led the way with five points in the postseason including three goals and two assists. Also, goaltender Gwyneth Phillips has been strong in goal with a save total of 873 saves in the regular season with a 23-10-3 record when starting, including an impressive .953 save percentage.
UConn won twice and tied once in the three-game series against Northeastern in the regular season. The Huskies are 20-45-13 all-time against Northeastern.
