Huskies Open Hockey East Play Against UNH
STORRS, Conn. – The No. 9 ranked UConn women's hockey team opens their Hockey East slate this weekend against the New Hampshire Wildcats. The Huskies open the weekend at UNH on Friday, October 11 at 6:00pm on ESPN+. UConn returns home on Saturday, October 12 at 6:00pm to close out the series on NESN. Tickets are available HERE.
UConn comes into the weekend sitting at 1-3 this season. Senior defender Ava Rinker leads the Huskies in points with six. The Pennsylvania native ranks fourth nationally in assists per game (1.50). Rinker was recently named Hockey East Defender of the Week after tallying five assists in two games last weekend. Senior forward Brianna Ware leads the Huskies in goals this season with two.
The Huskies special team unit has shined so far this season with four goals on the power play, putting them fourth nationally.
UNH is coming into the weekend 1-0-1 this season. The Wildcats are coached by Hilary Witt who is in her tenth season. UNH has a veteran roster this season, returning 15 players from a season ago, including four of their top point scorers. The Wildcats also return veteran goalie, Sedona Blair who started in every game last season. Blair was recently named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week.
