Three Former Huskies Headed to 2024 Paris Olympics

After a whirlwind of Olympic qualifiers in Ranchi, India and Valencia, Spain over January 13th-20th, three former Huskies and their teams have qualified for a spot in the 2024 summer Olympics in Paris, France. The top six teams, three from each qualifying location, will compete this summer in Paris.

Karlie Kisha and team USA qualified for a spot in the summer Olympic games after defeating Germany, who also qualified. The former Hamburg, Pa. native played for the Huskies from 2014-17 and was part of two national championship teams and four final four teams. During her senior season, she was named an NFHCA Division I All-American and was named to the NCAA Division I Championship All-Tournament Team. Kisha graduated in May of 2018 from UConn with a degree in chemistry. She was a four-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and NFHCA Division I National Academic Team. Kisha is currently an assistant coach at Villanova.

Cecile Pieper and team Germany clinched a spot among the top six teams. Pieper, a Mannheim, Germany native, led the UConn Huskies team with 23 goals and 58 points during her graduate season in 2018. She was named NFHCA First Team All-American, NFHCA First Team All-Region, BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, and All-BIG EAST First Team during her time in Storrs. She played 99 caps for the German Women's National Team (83 outdoor, 13 indoor) before UConn, and won a bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics with Germany.

And finally, Sophie Hamilton, along with team Great Britain, qualified for a chance at a medal in the 2024 summer Olympics after their defeat of Ireland. The Bruton, England native earned NFHCA First Team All-American, NFHCA Regional Player of the Year, and NFHCA Mideast Region First Team honors, while being a finalist for the Honda Sport Award. She was also named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player, All-BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team during her sophomore season with the Huskies. She totaled 28 goals and 29 assists for the Huskies during her two seasons in Storrs from 2019-2020/2021.

Hamilton and the GB team were pitted against another former Husky in Roisin Upton, who plays for Ireland. Upton graduated from UConn in 2016 and helped the Huskies win back-to-back national championships in 2013 & 2014.

Tune into the 2024 Paris summer Olympics to catch the former Huskies in action!
