Hinch Named USA Field Hockey Goalkeeping Coach
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Maddie Hinch, UConn field hockey assistant coach was named to the coaching staff of USA Field Hockey as a goalkeeping coach late last month. She will be an integral member of the coaching staff for the 2024 Paris Olympic Team.
Hinch, a gold medal Olympian for Great Britain, spent one season with the Huskies in 2023 as an assistant coach, specifically working with the team's goalkeepers. Hinch joined UConn after retiring from playing internationally in England and Great Britain. She made her debut in 2008 and was later awarded a full-time contract with GB Hockey in 2010. She had established herself as the national team's first-choice goalkeeper and had gone on to represent England and Great Britain more than 150 times. She has also been a member of HC Tilburg, a club hockey team in Holland. She claimed FIH Goalkeeper of the Year awards in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and was most recently honored with an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) by the King of England in the 2023 New Year Honors list for her services to hockey.
While at UConn, Hinch coached freshman goalkeeper, Natalie McKenna. McKenna was invited to the U21 Junior Women's National Team selection camp this past winter. She amassed 91 saves and a 0.722 save percentage in her first season with the Huskies.
