Field Hockey Falls to UMass in NCAA Tournament

STORRS, Conn.- The UConn women's field hockey team fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament defeated by the UMass Minutewomen 2-1 on Friday afternoon in Storrs.

The Huskies started the scoring in the first quarter, as Juul Sauer capitalized on a penalty corner off assists from Julia Bressler and Milou Heuker, scoring her 13th goal of the season. 

The score remained 1-0 UConn through the second and third quarters, with neither side able to generate an offensive attack. UMass tied the score early in the fourth quarter, as Paula Lorenzini scored the first goal for the Minutewomen off a feed from Alexa Collins. With just over five minutes left in the game, Hannah De Gast scored the game-winner for UMass, converting off a penalty corner to send the Minutewomen past the Huskies 2-1, ending UConn's season.

UConn finishes their season 17-4. UMass moves on to the second round, and will face the winner of Harvard/Syracuse in Storrs on Sunday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
