FH Falls to No.3 Duke
DURHAM, N.C. – The UConn field hockey team (5-12, 2-4 BIG EAST) fell to No.3 Duke in their final road contest of the season on Sunday afternoon in Durham, NC, 2-0.
The Blue Devils scored in the first period after being awarded a penalty stroke 11:22 minutes into the game. The second period was a battle in the midfield as both teams had two shots and no penalty corner attempts. The score remained at 1-0 heading into halftime.
Duke tacked on their final goal in the third period off a rebound on a penalty corner. The Huskies fought back but couldn't put one into the back of the net and the Blue Devils were awarded the win.
Sophomore, Julia Bressler, led the UConn offense with three shots, followed by Julianna Krayz, Sol Simone, and McKenna Sergi with a shot apiece.
The UConn defense was led by freshman goalkeeper, Natalie McKenna, who had six saves in the loss. Sophomore goalkeeper, Gabby Raichle, made her first appearance on the pitch this season and had one save.
The Huskies return home to close out their season with a game against BIG EAST opponent, Old Dominion, on Friday afternoon at 2pm. The graduating class of UConn seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony on the field.
