FH Set for Two Top-10 Matchups
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn field hockey team (5-10, 2-3 BIG EAST) is set for two top-10 matchups this weekend as they make their way down to No.6 Liberty and No.3 Duke in their final away trip of the regular season.
The Huskies are coming off an 0-2 weekend after falling to BIG EAST opponent, Providence, on Friday at home in a double overtime contest, and dropping to then-No.12 Boston College on the road on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore, Sol Simone, scored UConn's two goals of the weekend; one in each game.
This weekend marks the final set of ranked matchups that the Huskies will see during the regular season. UConn has seen their fair share of top-20 teams during the 2023 season, the highest ranking being a then-No.7 Syracuse, before they take on No.6 Liberty on Friday at 6pm and No.3 Duke on Sunday at 1pm.
The Huskies are 8-5 all-time against BIG EAST rival, the Liberty Flames. UConn fell to Liberty at home and at the BIG EAST tournament during the 2022 season; the Flames were the eventual BIG EAST Champions, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies are 1-1 against the Duke Blue Devils, with the last matchup being the 2013 NCAA National Championship game, where the Huskies were victorious. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of that championship game in Norfolk, VA.
Friday's matchup will be streamed on ESPN+ at 6pm, while Sunday's game can be seen on ACCNX.
