Huskies Improve to 5-0 Behind Perschk Hat Trick
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island - The UConn women's field hockey team improves to 5-0 on the season as they take down Brown University in a Thursday afternoon matchup behind three goals from freshman Sophie Perschk.
The first quarter was a defensive battle with neither team able to find the back of the net in the first quarter. The Huskies best chance of the quarter came as Olivia McKenna was left alone in front, but her shot rang off the post.
UConn wouldn't remain scoreless for long as freshman Juul Sauer found fellow freshman Sophie Perschk in front for the easy tip in and the 1-0 lead. With the one goal lead, the UConn defense would go to work, preventing the Bears from finding the equalizer. The Huskies defense allowed two total shots through two quarters, only one shot on goal and entered the half with the one goal lead.
The Huskies found their offense in the second half as they received goals form senior Madi Herb and freshman Sophie Perschk. Madi Herb kicked off the scoring in the second half as she took the feed from freshman Juul Sauer and fired it on goal. After being denied once by the keeper, she took the rebound and lofted the shot over the goalkeeper for the goal. In the final frame, the Huskies once again found the back of the net as freshman Sophie Perschk scored her second of the match as she showcased her hand eye coordination, hitting the ball mid-air for the goal. With the win, UConn improves to 5-0 on the season and will turn their attention to their third ranked matchup of the season as they travel to no.7 Harvard Sunday afternoon. The game is set to begin at 1pm and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
