No. 6 UConn Beats St. John’s, Moves to 7-0 in BIG EAST
STORRS, Conn. – The sixth-ranked UConn women's basketball team (16-2, 7-0 BIG EAST) beat St. John's (11-6, 1-5), 71-45, to remain undefeated in league play Wednesday evening in Carnesecca Arena.
Graduate student Azzi Fudd led the Huskies with 13 points while redshirt senior Paige Bueckers and 12 and sophomore Ashlynn Shade had 10.
Wednesday's game marked Bueckers' return after missing two games to a knee sprain. She finished with five rebounds and two steals.
UConn jumped out to a 25-10 lead in the first quarter as the team shot 71.4 percent. The Huskies went on a 12-2 run in the third quarter to take a comfortable lead.
The Huskies scored 38 points in the paint and had 27 bench points.
UConn returns to Gampel Pavilion this Sunday for the first time since Dec. 3 to host Seton Hall (12-4, 4-1).
