Fudd Scores 34, Leads No. 7 UConn Past St. John’s
STORRS, Conn. – Graduate student Azzi Fudd scored a career-high 34 points as the No. 7 UConn women's basketball team (23-3, 14-0 BIG EAST) beat St. John's (13-11, 3-10), 78-40, in a sold-out Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday evening.
Fudd made a personal-best eight three pointers vs. the Red Storm and added two steals.
Redshirt junior Paige Bueckers had an impact on every part of the game, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, five blocks and four steals.
Fudd scored 13 points in the first quarter as UConn took a 24-13 lead. The Huskies locked down to allow just seven St. John's points in the second quarter, pushing the lead to 45-20 at halftime.
Fudd broke out for 17 points in the third quarter on 6-8 shooting and went 5-6 from three in the quarter.
Redshirt senior Aubrey Griffin finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals, her most in each category since returning this season.
UConn faces No. 4 South Carolina (22-2) in a top-10 matchup this Sunday at 1 p.m. on ABC.
