No. 2 Huskies Beat Georgetown in BIG EAST Opener

HARTFORD, Conn. – Led by redshirt senior Paige Bueckers and freshman Sarah Strong, the No. 2 UConn women's basketball team (9-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) began conference play with a 79-44 win over Georgetown (6-5, 0-1) Sunday afternoon in the XL Center.

Bueckers scored 24 points on 11-16 shooting and added two rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks. Strong had her second double-double of the season with 17 points and a personal-best 14 rebounds while adding five assists and two blocks.

All 10 Huskies available for the game scored vs. the Hoyas. UConn scored 30 points off 22 Georgetown turnovers.

The Huskies had 25 assists on 32 made field goals.

UConn outscored Georgetown 47-16 across the second and third quarters. Connecticut has now won 39 straight games against the Hoyas.

The Huskies face No. 18 Iowa State (8-3) in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase on Tuesday at Mohegan Sun. The game will tip at 8:30 p.m. on FS1.
