Bueckers, Strong Earn All-America Honors

STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's basketball redshirt senior Paige Bueckers and freshman Sarah Strong earned AP and USBWA All-America honors, as announced by the Associated Press and U.S. Basketball Writers Association Wednesday.

Bueckers was selected as a First Team All-American by both the AP and USBWA. Strong was named an AP Second Team All-American and USBWA Third Team All-American.

Bueckers is UConn's leader on and off the court in her final season in Storrs. She is averaging 19.0 points and 4.9 assists per game. One of the most efficient guards in the nation, Bueckers is currently averaging a .536/.406/.899 shooting split, one made free throw from a 50/40/90 split.

Bueckers leads the nation with a 3.9 assist-turnover ratio.

Bueckers became the first player in BIG EAST history to be named the tournament Most Outstanding Player three times. She was the fourth player in league history to be named Player of the Year three times.

Against ranked opponents this season, Bueckers is averaging 19.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.

Bueckers became the fastest player in program history to 2,000 career points, reaching the milestone in her 102nd career game. She is one of three Huskies all-time to reach 2,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.

As just a freshman, Strong has established herself as one of the top players in the nation. She is averaging 16.0 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Strong leads the Huskies in rebounds, steals and blocks and ranks second on the team in points and assists.

Against top-25 opponents this season, Strong averaged 16.7 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

Strong already ranks in the top 10 for UConn freshmen records for numerous statistical categories: fourth in points (543), third in rebounds (286), 10th in assists (116) third in steals (83) and fifth in blocks (54).

Strong was unanimously named the BIG EAST's Freshman of the Year and The Athletic's National Freshman of the Year. She was selected to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team after recording double-doubles in all three games, averaging 14.3 points and 13. 7 rebounds per game.

The second-seeded UConn women's basketball team (31-3) hosts Arkansas State (21-10) in the NCAA Tournament First Round this Saturday at 1 p.m. on ABC.
