No. 5 UConn, No. 19 Tennessee to Battle Thursday
STORRS, Conn. – The fifth-ranked UConn women's basketball team (21-2) faces storied rival No. 19 Tennessee (16-5) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Food City Center. The game will air on ESPN and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).
UConn is 17-9 all-time vs. Tennessee. The Huskies have won the last four meetings between the teams. This is the 25th meeting between the programs with both teams ranked in the AP Top 25.
UConn matched its highest point total this season with a 101-59 win over Butler last Sunday. Six Huskies finished with double-digit points, led by 18 from redshirt senior Paige Bueckers. UConn had 43 bench points and 34 points off 22 Butler turnovers.
Tennessee beat Missouri, 76-71, last Sunday. This season, Talaysia Cooper leads the Lady Vols with 17.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Tennessee leads the nation in three pointers made (11.0) and attempted (33.1) per game. Head coach Kim Caldwell is in her first season at Tennessee.
Bueckers was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award midseason list while freshman Sarah Strong was selected to the Cheryl Miller Award list. The awards honor the nation's top point guard and small forward, respectively.
The Lady Volunteers are one of two non-conference matchups the Huskies have this month. UConn travels to No. 2 South Carolina on Feb. 16.
