Strong Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
STORRS, Conn. – After helping the No. 2 UConn women's basketball team to a pair of season-opening wins, Sarah Strong was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday.
The No. 1-ranked recruit in the 2024 freshman class, Strong started her first career collegiate games and averaged 15.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.0 steals per game while shooting 65.0 percent.
Strong posted a game-high 17 points and six steals while adding four rebounds and three assists in the season opener vs. BU. In a win over South Florida, the Durham, N.C., native notched 13 points, a game-high seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Strong was selected as the BIG EAST's preseason Freshman of the Year.
After averaging 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals, notching just one turnover and leading the conference with a 73.7 shooting percentage in just 26 minutes per game, redshirt senior Paige Bueckers was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
The Huskies travel to Greensboro, N.C., to face No. 15 North Carolina (2-0) this Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
