Bueckers, Strong Sweep BIG EAST Weekly Awards
STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's basketball redshirt senior Paige Bueckers and freshman Sarah Strong were named the BIG EAST Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively, on Monday.
Bueckers made history vs. Seton Hall on Sunday as the fastest player in program history to 2,000 career points, reaching the milestone in her 102nd game. She became the 12th Husky all-time to reach 2,000 points.
Bueckers finished the game with 18 points and seven assists. She averaged 15.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists last week.
This is Bueckers' fourth BIG EAST Player of the Week honor this season.
Strong recorded her fourth double-double of the season and had her seventh 20-point game with 23 points and 11 rebounds vs. Seton Hall. She averaged 14.5 points on 75.0 percent shooting and 8.0 rebounds last week.
This is the seventh time this season Strong has been named conference Freshman of the Week.
UConn returns to Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday to host Villanova (10-9, 4-3) Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will air on SNY.
