Huskies Beat Fort Hays State in Exhibition
STORRS, Conn. – Five Huskies scored in double digits as the UConn women's basketball team beat Fort Hays State, 89-49, in an exhibition Sunday afternoon in Gampel Pavilion.
Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers led the way against the Tigers, scoring 27 points on 12-for-14 shooting. She also added nine rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
Sophomore Ashlynn Shade notched 15 points and added 13 rebounds and four steals. Graduate student Kaitlyn Chen recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Sophomore Qadence Samuels notched 12 points, five rebounds and three assists off the bench. Freshman Sarah Strong had 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Huskies led by just four at the end of the first quarter before outscoring FHSU 27-6 in the second to take a 42-17 halftime lead. The Huskies shot 50 percent in the game.
UConn held a 53-33 advantage in rebounds and a 42-18 advantage in paint points.
The Huskies officially begin the 2024-25 season this Thursday, Nov. 7, vs. Boston University in the XL Center at 7 p.m. Tickets for the season opener are available HERE.
